NCAA Round-up – Curr Impresses

This weekend was the most frantic we’ve had this season. We had both collegiate and professional meets across the country with numerous automatic qualifiers attained. DCU (Dublin) had several athletes over in preparation for next week’s Millrose Games and their performances are included in the results, along with notable British elites.

Our performance of the week is a toss-up between Freshman Butler Bulldog Tom Curr with a 4:00 mile or Chris O’Hare’s facility record 1000m 2:20, both at the ND Meyo Invitational. Both have yet to achieve an automatic qualifying mark for any event.

Former FSU athlete Ciaran O’Lionaird beat training partners Mo Farah and Galen Rupp to the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. He crossed the line in low 3:56 which was enough to hold off Canada’s Taylor Milne and a tired Mo Farah who never recovered from an early fall.

Mark English, Irish 800m Junior Record Holder, won the New Balance Collegiate Invite in 1:49.49 in aggressive fashion with a high 51 first lap.

Many of the high profile British and Irish athletes are preparing for the upcoming weeks. OSU, FSU, Providence are a few of the big names not to have raced full squads this week. Conference Championships are just around the corner and now is the time to be making your move for automatic qualification.
