NCAA Weekend Preview – Conferences Begin

ncaaindoor

After last weekend’s mayhem of results that completely rewrote the NCAA performance lists, a down week looms this weekend as teams start to look forward to next week’s Conference Championships.

However, this is not to say that there is nothing going on. In fact there are 91 scheduled collegiate meets taking place this weekend, including several Conference meets, so no doubt there will be plenty to talk about come Sunday evening. Key meets include:

  • Big East Indoor Championships (Interest from USF, Louisville, DePaul and Providence)
  • MAAC Indoor Championships
  • America East Indoor Championships (Stony Brook and Boston)
  • Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships
Men
Boston America East Stuart Ross Rich Peters
De Paul Big East Matthew Graham
Providence Big East Dave McCarthy Lee Carey Jonathan Hopkins Ben Connor Shane Quinn
Iona Metro Mitch Goose Ben Lindsey Craig Murphy Jake Byrne

Women

Louisville Big East Hollie Knight
Stony Brook America East Lorraine McCarthy Mary O’Connor Patricia Barry
Boston America East Eleanor Wimshurst
USF Big East Yasmin Smith
Iona Metro Hollie Rowland Luci McLoughlin

We will, as per usual highlight as many of the British and Irish performances as possible.

One thing we have yet to mention so far this indoor season is the team element of the competition. Just as is the case with cross country, the NCAA Indoor Championship is a scored meet, meaning that both Men’s and Women’s champions will be crowned. The famous Arkansas Razorbacks sit at the top of the men’s team standing, and if ever there was a team that knows how to win then they are it after collecting 19 team titles between 1984 and 2006.

On the women’s side, two time defending NCAA Champions Oregon remain top of the rankings, comfortably ahead of Clemson and LSU. This week’s rankings are shown below.
