NCAA Weekend Preview – Relays

Whilst the outdoor season has yet to truly get going, this weekend certainly will provide a good catalyst to kick start things somewhat. Lots of athletes will be making low key openers to their seasons following a spell of hard training or a mini post indoors break.

With 75 scheduled collegiate meets taking place this weekend, there will no doubt be plenty of British and Irish athletes. Looking through the fixture list, notable meets that stand out include:

The biggest of these is the Texas Relays. Whilst the big relay classics may not be to everybody’s liking, they invariably do generate excitement and attention. Hundreds of enthusiastic high schoolers get to compete in big stadiums with capacity crowds, and have a real chance to put themselves in the shop window to potential college coaches. In addition to the full college programme there are always a few professional races at events too, and with Texan Leo Manzano scheduled to compete in the 800m and mile, it should make for great viewing.

Here’s a Relays record from Manzano.
