Conference Preview - USA Athletics Scholarships

Conference Preview

A total of 58 collegiate track and field events are scheduled to take place this weekend, with the majority of these being conference championships. Whilst a few conference meets have already occurred in recent weeks, this weekend is typically when most will take place.

For many athletes, this will be the final weekend of the seasons.  Whereas in a typical European summer, the season is as long as you decide to take it, in the NCAA from this point onwards failure to perform means the season is over. Any athlete wishing to compete beyond conference weekend at the regional and national meets must have qualified by virtue of previous performances.

Going back to one of our original articles on scholarships, the conference meet is one of the major times when athletes are expected to deliver for the team. Total points scored by an athlete at a conference meet is one of the biggest measures of success used by coaches, and this is likely to result in some very busy athletes competing numerous times this weekend.

Once conference weekend is over, declarations for the NCAA preliminary round will be made and the road to Des Moines commences.

As usual, there will be plenty of British and Irish representation across numerous different conferences.  Those we expect to compete are listed below:
