O'Hare and Tulsa lead the way

O’Hare & Tulsa win at Notre Dame – Plus Weekend Roundup

chrisohare

Tulsa’s Chris O’Hare transferred some of his national championship winning track pedigree to the cross last night, beating a high quality field to win the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. After being quite literally trampled on and forced to withdraw at the same race in 2009, the Scottish athlete had, until now, never really been able to find any momentum with collegiate cross country. However, this performance will certainly signify that he is finally now ready to mix it with the nation’s best over all three disciplines. Fellow Brit Andy Heyes also produced his finest cross country performance to date, finishing a highly respectable 15th. There was double delight for O’Hare, as well as picking up the individual win he also led his Tulsa teammates to the overall title. With this win and the points that it could potentially lead to, the 20th ranked Golden Hurricane have given themselves a huge chance of an at large qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships should they fail to finish in the first two at regionals.

MENS WOMENS

Overall it turned out to be a great day for British and Irish athletes. There were five in the top 15 in the men’s race, and an excellent performance by New Mexico’s Josephine Moultrie to finish 4th in the ladies race. Full British and Irish results are listed below and external results can be found here.

Elsewhere there were good runs for Mitch Goose (4th), Matt Gillespie (6th) and Dan Clorley (13th) at the Greater Louisville Classic, no doubt using the race as recon for Nationals in November.

Shane Quinn continued his fine form with a great run in at the Paul Short meet in Pennsylvania, while UAB’s Elinor Kirk and Sarak Hudak continued their preparation for Conferece USA champs with good performances in the Windy City.

Utah’s BYU squad defeated Oregon at their own home meet to some surprise. We’ll personally put BYU down now for a top 3 place at Nationals, so this result isn’t a huge surprise against a comparatively weak Oregon squad, that didn’t feature Rich Goodman.

We’ll post new weekly rankings when we have them on our Facebook page.
