Fouhy shines on last chance weekend

last chance

Virginia’s Vicky Fouhy was the star British performer of ‘last chance weekend.’ Competing at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, the Windsor athlete shattered her mile personal best by over 8 seconds to finish second, and in the process secure a place at her first NCAA Championships. Her time of 4.34.87 places her 9th on the NCAA performance list, and is also the fastest time by a Brit in 2013.

Whilst there were several other attempts, Fouhy was the only British or Irish athlete to secure a top 16 position over the weekend. As it stands there are 9 British and Irish athletes qualified to compete in 12 different events, though we will not know exactly who is competing in which event until the NCAA release their official start lists. Anthony Leighio and Georgia Peel both currently sit outside the top 16 and must now wait nervously until the official lists are released by the NCAA.

Elsewhere, Matt Clowes was had a busy weekend accumulating points for Concordia in a mile / 3000m double at the NAIA Championships. The man from Stoke picked up a pair of NAIA All-American performances by finishing 6th and 2nd respectively.

As per usual with an NCAA event, we will feature each qualified British and Irish athlete when the official entry lists are released. We have not included DMR results. Tom Farrell and Antony Leighio guided their teams to national berths with good runs at the ND last chance meet.
