Week 5 XC – Friars Impress

Cowboy Jamboree

Ireland and Providence’s Sarah Collins and Shane Quinn perhaps posted the performances of the weekend by finishing 4th and 6th respectively in a high quality meet at Boston College on Friday night. Oregon made their way Eastwards for the meet, with the men taking the team title, but Providence women prevailed in their race.

At the notoriously tough OSU Cowboy Jamboree, Farrell, Casey and Fayers all opened up their seasons, with the latter redshirting and competing unattached. The race was won by last year’s NCAA XC champion and site favourite, Texas Tech’s Kennedy Kithuka. Tulsa were intending to race this meet but due to weather problems couldn’t make the journey. They open up in earnest at Notre Dame.

McNeese State dominated their home meet against in-state rivals, LSU, while the Butler girls placed 3rd in a very competitive Griak, meet in Minnesota, taking some good scalps (Minnesota, Iowa State) which could come in handy when the KOLAS calculator comes into play in November.

As for individual wins, Eimear Black and Jo Adams both chalked up good wins for Bryan and North Texas.

Next weekend sees the Notre Dame Invitational where a lot of team points will be up for grabs.
