Pre-Nats, Wisconsin & More

Pre-Nats

Weekend past offered teams the last chance before Conference begins next week to rack up some points in a non-championship environment. Coaches eager to gain points for their team in the last weekend of major invitationals sent their athletes to Madison and Terre Haute in the hope that should their team finish outside the top 2 at the Regional meet, that they have scored enough points in these invitational meets, along with the upcoming Conference meet, that does enough to squeeze them through in an at-large bid.

The Butler girls were impressive as they took 3rd placed team at the Pre-National meet. This will be the exact same course that will host Nationals in November so familiarity with the course is hugely preferential especially for the first-time athletes. Iona led the British and Irish men’s teams home in 3rd, with Tulsa 5th and an understrength OSU 7th. In Madison, WI, New Mexico men were 5th, with the ladies 6th and Providence ladies 3rd .It would be remiss of us to forget our Texas Tech site favourite, Kennedy Kithuka. The reigning NCAA XC Champ won the 8k race in 22:52 some 40 seconds clear of 2nd.

Leading men at Pre-Nats and Wisconsin respectively were Chris O’Hare (Tulsa, 3rd), Hannah Walker (FSU, 6th), Luke Caldwell (New Mexico, 7th) and Charlotte Arter (New Mexico 24th).

Full results from the weekend along with photos from Terre Haute are below. Conference weekend begins on Friday with around half of the meets taking place nationwide.
