Weekend round up - USA Athletics Scholarships

Weekend round up

Nick Miller Oklahoma State

Highlights of a lower key weekend included a 21.86 weight throw effort from Nick Miller, and a 7.49 long jump from Oliver Newport. Whilst it was not quite a seasons best from Miller, as he put down a pre-Christmas marker of 22.56, it certainly shows he is going well as the consistent Cumbrian will be looking to finally win an NCAA title in his senior year.

Oliver Newports long jump leaves him 10cm shy of the current 16th ranked performance, though with plenty of meets still left he has every chance to make further improvements.

The other stand out performance was a 4.01 from Alabama’s Robbie Farnham-Rose. Having intially decided to return to the UK, Farnham-Rose has now gone full circle to find himself back in the NCAA, and presumably he will be targeting a qualifier at one of the really quick meets in the next few weeks.

Great Britain junior international steeplechaser Jamaine Coleman also had a low key introduction to collegiate competition for Eastern Kentucky, competing in an 800 / mile double at the MTSU Invitational.

We expect next week to be the biggest of the regular season, and one where many athletes will be looking for those all important top 16 ranking positions.

Results from the weekend are all listed below and Irish results will be added in over the course of the day.
