British results NCAA track and field championships

Day two results

freya jones

Day two at Hayward Field and it was the turn of the British women to see what they could do in ‘Tracktownusa’.

In exactly the same fashion as the men on day one, it was a javelin thrower who performed highest in the form of Freya Jones. Competing for Georgia, Jones finished in fifth position with a best throw of 54.11. In her three years as a collegiate she has now finished first, sixth, and fifth at the NCAA Championships, which is an excellent display of consistency. She will now have one final season to try and add a second title to her collection.

The other All-American to emerge from the evening was New Mexico freshman Alice Wright in the 10,000m. The Worcester athlete finished in 8th place, to conclude her breakthrough season. Having not competed on the track since 2011 prior to this season, she is surely one of the biggest improvers in 2015

There were mixed fortunes in the 1500m, with Rhianwedd Price advancing to the final comfortably as a heat winner, though unfortunately Rosie Clarke narrowly missed out, finishing 8th in her heat. The final athlete competing on day two was Elizabeth Bird in the 3000m steeplechase. She clearly found the going tough in Eugene, finishing 12th in her heat, and not advancing to the final.

The mens programme concludes tonight, with the following athletes in action:

3000m SC Zak Seddon
5000 Jack Goodwin
TJ Babatunde Amosu
TJ Ben Williams
DT Nicholas Percy
