NCAA Day three results

For the third day in a row it was a field eventer who won the battle to be highest place Brit, this time Ben Williams of Louisville finishing 4th in the triple jump. The Sale Harrier smashed his lifetime best by nearly 20cm to record a distance of 16.74, a distance which is also comfortably a UK lead for 2015. On a windy day in Eugene, Williams’s distance was also the only mark amongst the top 8 competitors that was achieved inside 2.0 on the wind scale (+1.4). The second Brit competing in the triple jump Babatunde Amosu did not fare so well, finishing in 22nd position with a distance of 15.45 set in the first round.

The second All-American to emerge from the evening was Zak Seddon in the steeplechase. As expected, the Kenyans made it a very competitive event, and Seddon finished mid pack amongst some high quality opposition – a solid end to a resurgent season for the Florida State athlete.

Elsewhere, freshman Nicholas Percy finished in a highly respectable 15th position in the discus in his debut at the end, no doubt gaining valuable experience to build on in the future. Jack Goodwin was unfortunately a DNF in the mens 5000m final, and at this stage we are unaware of the reason why.
