NCAA Champion number 2 - Nicholas Percy

NCAA Champion number 2 – Nicholas Percy

Nicholas Percy became Britain’s second NCAA title winner for 2016 last night, by taking victory in the discus. The Isle of Wight man, representing Nebraska produced a lifetime best throw of 61.27 to win by 31cm from Sam Mattis of Penn. Percy has made big improvements from last year, where he was 15th with a 56m throw, and will no doubt be aiming for championship selections later in the season when he returns to the UK.

Whilst Percy’s was a surprise victory, the chances of 100/200m favourite Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake were unfortunately ruined by injury. After anchoring his LSU team to a 4*100 victory, Mitchell-Blake suffered from cramps in his leg. Although these were apparently not serious, he was effected majorly in the 100m and subsequently did not start the 200m.  With the British Olympic trials two weeks away, this was clearly a sensible decision.

Zak Seddon finished his Florida State career with a solid 6th place finish in the steeplechase. He has been hovering around the mid 8.30’s all season and did again in Eugene with 8.36, so doesn’t need to find a huge amount of time if he is to make an impact on GB selections later in the year.

See below for results. The meeting concludes tonight and there are five British women set to compete in track finals.
